A Century of Breaking Barriers.
A Legacy That Lives On.

On View Until November 15, 2026

Houston’s medical history is filled with remarkable people who didn’t just practice medicine. They changed who could practice it, who could receive care, and what healthcare could become.

Now on view at The Health Museum, Houston Medical Forum: 100 Years of Legacy, Leadership, and Healing celebrates a century of pioneering Black physicians whose courage, leadership, and dedication helped shape healthcare in Houston and beyond.

Through historical photographs, documents, and personal stories, this commemorative timeline traces the Houston Medical Forum’s remarkable journey from its early beginnings through the civil rights movement, major medical breakthroughs, public health challenges, and its continuing commitment to healthier communities.

Discover the physicians who challenged segregation, opened doors for future generations, advanced medical research, and responded to critical health challenges, including the HIV/AIDS epidemic and COVID-19.

More than a look at the past, this display honors the people behind the progress and reminds us how their determination continues to influence the health of our communities today.

Explore 100 years of history, humanity, and healing at The Health Museum.
