Fall 2026 Internship Opportunity

Position Title: DeBakey Cell Lab Tech – Work Study
Reports to: DeBakey Cell Lab Coordinator
Position Status: Work Study, Internship (10-20 hours per week), including weekend hours and occasional after-hours events.

The hours below reflect when we need the most support; we are happy to make adjustments around personal and/or school schedules on a case-by-case basis.

  • Tuesday – Saturday: 10 am – 1:30 pm and 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm
  • Sunday: 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm and 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Cell Lab will be open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Thursday 10:00 am – 6 pm (tentative), and Sunday 12 pm – 5 pm

Position Summary

The DeBakey Cell Lab Tech position is a member of a team that is responsible for helping to ensure the proper functioning, maintenance, and safety of the Lab and a positive experience for lab guests. The primary responsibility of a Lab Tech is to facilitate the lab experience for guests. This includes creating a welcoming space, prepping the lab stations, and assisting guests with questions or techniques as needed. Good interpersonal skills, ability to support interactions with large and small groups (children and/or adults), and a strong interest in research/science education are key qualities for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the Lab’s daily operations, including but not limited to preparation of solutions and materials, maintenance of bacterial cultures, and executing clean-up procedures, restocking of workstation supplies, and reporting Lab maintenance needs to the DeBakey Cell Lab Coordinator
  • Interact with museum guests in the Lab, helping facilitate experiments, demonstrations, and information in an engaging, timely, and professional manner
  • Field questions and perform occasional troubleshooting
  • Attend staff meetings as assigned
  • Represent the Museum at relevant meetings, events, and various outreach programs as assigned

  • Demonstrated interest in health, science, or education
  • Background in Biology required

  • Teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or performing experience a plus
