I am so grateful to have had such a comprehensive opportunity, especially as a first-generation student and the first in my family to pursue a career in healthcare.

DeBakey Cell Lab High School Intern, ’25
My six weeks as a DeBakey Cell Lab Intern at The Health Museum were nothing short of incredible. From the moment I walked in, I was met with an amazing energy that confirmed I was in the right place. This experience did more than just teach me about science; it deepened my passion for a future in healthcare and showed me what it means to be part of a community that truly loves what they do.
Passion Ignited
As an aspiring pediatrician and biology major, the chance to engage with insightful professionals and like-minded peers was a dream come true. I knew this program was special from my first meeting with Ms. Paige, whose incredible energy made me eager to be a part of it all. That welcoming spirit was felt throughout the museum, from the staff to my fellow interns.

Hands-On Learning and Meaningful Connections
The internship was packed with hands-on lab experiments and inspiring professional development sessions. I had the opportunity to practice essential laboratory skills, like micro-pipetting and culturing. We also had the chance to speak with so many professionals from various health-related fields. The advice and encouragement I received were phenomenal.
As a first-generation student, I don’t personally know many professionals in my field of interest. Dr. Sri taught me so much, even beyond science. She showed me how to foster meaningful connections, a skill that I will carry with me throughout my career. I was also thrilled when Ms. Kennethia invited me to join the Global Teen Medical Summit next summer, another amazing opportunity to learn and grow.

Sincere Gratitude
I want to express my sincere gratitude for being chosen as an intern this summer. The knowledge I’ve gained is so valuable, and I truly feel honored. I am so happy that I had the chance not only to attend but to make the most of this experience. Thank you again for this amazing opportunity and for the incredible work you all do to support students like me. I feel so inspired and can’t wait to see what my future holds!
