Ever dreamed of having your one-of-a-kind skeleton displayed in a museum? This is your chance!

Siege of the Skeletons is a display made up of skeletons that have been created by students, artists, groups, businesses or individuals and will be displayed in The Health Museum during the month of October!

(We encourage you to display your skeleton at your school, office, club, or home and send us photos of its new home!)

Theme: FEAR-y Tales

Style: Create your life-sized skeleton in keeping with our theme with your creative spin on a classic fairy tale. Engage the public on a new take on one of their favorite fairy tales.

Categories:

  • SCHOOLS: (public, private, homeschool - a school official must sponsor all entries)
    Elementary (grades K-5)
    Middle (grades 6-8)
    High school (grades 9-12)
    Each school team must have their entry sponsored by a school official.
  • OPEN:
    Any individual, group, organization or business that is not a school group (above). Scouts, church groups, bowling leagues, families, neighbor teams, etc.
    A parent or guardian must sponsor all entries for those participating under the age of 18.
    May use your own organization's logos, trademarks or taglines as decoration but may not have advertising, including any other logos, flyers, giveaways or additional signage as part of or with your display.

Size and Display:

  • Entries should be life-sized, 4-6 feet tall and fit within a 2' x 2' footprint.
  • Skeletons must be able to sit or stand without assistance. For seated skeletons, participants must provide their own seating as part of the display, and for standing skeletons, participants must ensure that their skeleton will remain standing on its own for the duration of the display.
  • No props or materials of any kind will be available onsite at The Health Museum nor will The Health Museum take responsibility for the stability of the skeletons.
  • Entries must be tastefully rendered for public viewing of all ages. Questionable or non-relevant material or subject matter will result in disqualification at the discretion of The Health Museum exhibit committee.
  • Entries that do not meet the requirements may be rejected. However, we are open to creativity so please call if you have questions about your content.

Materials:

  • Paper mâché, wire, plaster casting materials, duct tape, milk jugs... Feel free to experiment with various materials or stay with the tried and true - it's up to you!
  • Each skeleton can include props and decorations to help create the theme.
  • Use ideas on the internet and add your own twist - many websites have great DIY ideas for skeletons!

Registration Open Through October 6, 2023.
Late entries will be accepted only if space allows - please contact us for availability.

Judging:
Museum visitors will be able to vote for their favorite skeleton(s) at The Health Museum as well as through our social media channels (Instagram, Facebook and TikTok) from October 6 - November 3, 2023.

Permission:
By entering your skeleton in Siege of the Skeleton's you agree to have your skeleton on public display at The Health Museum for the full exhibition time. Museum guests, media and The Health Museum will be taking videos or photographs of your work for promotional purposes, including print and television, website, social media campaigns and promotional materials for the museum.

Prizes:
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners!
For group entries, prizes will be awarded as a whole, not to each individual.

Return of Skeletons:
Skeletons must be scheduled for pick up from The Health Museum on either Saturday, November 4, 2023, 11 am - 4 pm or Sunday, November 5, 2023, 1 pm - 4 pm.
All props and decorations must also be picked up - whatever was dropped off must be picked up. The Health Museum is not responsible for discarding entries, props or decorations associated with this contest.

We encourage you to display your skeletons at your school, place of work, place of meeting or in your homes! Please send us photos of your skeleton's permanent home!)
