Job Summary

The Science Educator is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and evidence-based educational experiences for museum visitors of all ages. This position plays a key role in managing the Doc Dissection Program and overseeing the Science Discovery Carts to ensure consistent, safe, and impactful learning opportunities. This team is tasked with developing and delivering timely, interesting, interactive, and influential content for our museum visitors. The educational goal is to deliver immersive, forward-thinking programs that are thoughtful and challenging, and reflect the museum’s core values of individualized, evidence-based, and inspirational. The programs are primarily created as non-formal and informal learning opportunities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program Development & Delivery

  • Develop and deliver science and health education programs for diverse audiences, including school groups, camps, workshops, and outreach events.
  • Facilitate hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with educational standards and museum goals.
  • Adapt instructional strategies to meet the needs of learners of varying ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Doc Dissection Program Coordination
  • Coordinate, prepare, and lead Doc Dissection sessions for visitors.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of biological specimens and materials.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, ethical, and institutional guidelines.
  • Train and support staff and volunteers involved in dissection programs.
  • Evaluate and refine the dissection curriculum to maintain educational quality and relevance.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation, schedules, and inventory records.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and program assessment.

Science Discovery Carts Oversight

  • Manage daily operations of Science Discovery Carts on the museum floor.
  • Ensure carts are fully stocked, organized, and maintained.
  • Develop engaging cart-based activities and demonstrations.
  • Train staff and volunteers on effective facilitation and visitor engagement.
  • Monitor program quality and visitor feedback to improve learning experiences.

Collaboration & Support

  • Collaborate with museum staff on program development, evaluation, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Support exhibit-related learning experiences and maintain instructional materials.
  • Assist with special events, public programs, and community partnerships.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, health, education, or related field preferred.
  • Teaching, facilitation, or performance experience preferred.
  • Experience with hands-on science instruction and laboratory or dissection activities preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with educational technology.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Superior attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated curiosity in current science and health developments.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and adaptable.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to learn and apply best practices in non-formal and informal education.
