Privacy Policy

The Health Museum (“THM”) is committed to protecting the privacy and personal information of its users.

Your privacy on the Internet is of the utmost importance to us. Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we feel you should fully understand the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what information we gather, how we use it, and how to correct or change it.

Information THM gathers and tracks

THM gathers two types of information about users: data that users provide through mandatory, voluntary registration; and aggregated tracking information derived mainly by tallying page views throughout our site. Such information enables us to better tailor our content to users’ needs. THM does not share information about individual users with any third party. THM gathers user information in the following processes:

Mandatory & Voluntary registration

Users can opt to subscribe to THM electronic newsletters. THM offers voluntary registration to users to gain access to THM’s e-commerce applications and may then buy the goods and services and memberships offered. During registration, the user is required to supply a name, billing address, billing phone number, and valid e-mail address.
THM never uses or shares the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.

During registration for educational programs offered by THM, the user is required to supply a name, emergency contact name, an emergency contact phone number, diet and medical conditions, and insurance policy information for each participant they register on the medical release form. During registration, users can voluntarily provide consent for each participant on the media release form.

Usage tracking

THM tracks user traffic patterns. We may also track information to determine which pages on our website that users like and don’t like based on the traffic to the particular page. THM does not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. However, we do not correlate this information with data about individual users. THM may from time to time break down overall usage statistics according to an user’s domain name, browser type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string which is contained in every user’s browser. Users will need to enable cookies for full functionality of THM website.

Use of the information

As stated above, THM uses information that users voluntarily provide in order to send out electronic newsletters. We send out newsletters to subscribers on a regular schedule (usually monthly, depending on the newsletter), and periodically send out special editions when we think subscribers may be interested in something we are doing. THM never shares newsletter mailing lists with any third parties, including advertisers or partners.

When users register for educational programs or join THM or make a donation online or on-site, the user will be asked to provide us with the information needed to process your registration or membership or donation transaction and to acknowledge your contribution to THM. This information may include your name, billing and mailing addresses, telephone number, e-mail address, and credit card information. We do not collect the user’s credit card security code. Your credit card information will not be used for any other purpose other than to process your transaction. We retain your personal identification information for our records. THM does not retain your credit card information after a transaction has been processed.

THM regularly sends e-mails and newsletters to our members to provide them with previews of THM’s upcoming exhibitions, events, and other programs. If you do not wish to receive e-mails from THM, please see the “Delete/deactivate” policy section below.

Sharing of the information

THM does not share information collected through THM website about individual users with any third parties, including advertisers or partners. However, THM does not control our partners’ practices.

THM also may disclose or exchange with others information users have provided to us if we believe in good faith that the law requires us to do so or if it is necessary to protect the rights or property of THM or our users.

THM does not share data with parties we affiliate programs with. If consent is given by the user on the media release form, THM will share the educational program participant’s name with our media partners.

Data security policy

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security, and ensure the correct use of information, we use industry standard efforts to safeguard the confidentiality of your personal identifiable information, such as TLS 1.0 encryption.

Delete/deactivate policy

Users may unsubscribe to any of our electronic newsletters at any time by following the instructions contained at the end of every newsletter.

Revisions to the Privacy Policy

THM reserves the right to revise its privacy policy at any time without notice. These changes are effective immediately upon posting on THM website.
