Remembering Mrs. Kathrine G. McGovern

The Health Museum is deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. Kathrine G. McGovern, an irreplaceable force in our community and a vital sponsor of The Health Museum. Her contributions to our institution and the community at large will be remembered and cherished for generations to come.

The Health Museum came to life in 1969 as the Museum of Medical Science, located inside the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Thanks to an incredible donation from the John P. McGovern Foundation, the museum was able to build its own free-standing building dedicated to health education, first calling it the Museum of Health and Medical Science. Later on, recognizing the ongoing support from Kathrine and John’s Foundation, the museum was renamed the John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science. You can still see that legacy today in The Health Museum’s name and logo.

“Kathrine G. McGovern was a beacon of light in our community. Her contributions to The Health Museum and her passion for health education will continue to inspire us. She will be dearly missed, but her legacy will live on.”

John Arcidiacono
President & CEO, The Health Museum

The Health Museum extends heartfelt condolences to the McGovern family. In honoring Mrs. McGovern’s memory, we commit to furthering her vision of empowering communities through health education.
