André[‘s]…painting was based on a dream she had as a teenager. After her son Alex passed in 2023, she felt compelled to paint the dream…In her dream she was encouraging a group of people to move through the darkness, where we are now, into the light and abundance.

A special thanks to The Arts of Healing for supporting the opening reception
“Healing Hands” is a powerful exhibition that delves into the transformative connection between art, caregiving, and mental wellness. Featuring 24 Houston caregivers who are also artists, this exhibition highlights the vital role that caregivers play in our lives and a testament to the rich tapestry of our community of care including volunteers, physicians, nurses, and family, representing Latinx, White, Black, Asian, and South Asian/Indian.
The juror selection process was guided by leaders in the arts, medicine, and public health. The jurors focused on the authenticity and depth of each artist’s narrative, ensuring that the final collection of works would resonate deeply with the theme of healing and caregiving. Through their artworks, these artists share personal stories and experiences, offering viewers a glimpse into their worlds and the different ways in which they engage with the concepts of mental well-being and caring for others.
By bringing together such a diverse group of caregivers who are also artists, “Healing Hands” reflects the strength unity found within our community, inspiring visitors to appreciate the universal power of care and connection.
