Support The Health Museum!
You can support our efforts to empower healthier living in the community and inspire the next generation of researchers, innovators, and health care professionals with your very own Biohazard T-shirt.
The Health Museum is a nonprofit science museum that was started in response to the polio epidemic that spread throughout the US in the 1940s and 1950s. With donations from the Victory Over Polio vaccination campaign and funds from local organizations, a series of permanent health exhibits that were open to the public were created to fulfill a need for quality health information and education. Fifty years later, we continue to carry out our mission to inspire wonder and curiosity about health, medical science, and the human body. This Biohazard T-shirt commemorates our timely, current exhibition, OUTBREAK: Epidemics in a Connected World
, which opened in October of 2019. The exhibition emphasizes the interconnectedness of human health, animal health, and the environment; the impact of outbreaks on communities; and the importance of working both at the local and global level to stop the spread of infectious disease.
About the Biohazard Symbol
The international biohazard symbol was developed by Dow Chemical Company in the 1960s to label biological substances that pose a threat to the health of humans and other living organisms.
